Bromley By Bow Health Partnership

About the Bromley By Bow Health Partnership

We first opened 25 years ago in Whitehorse Lane. The surgery was initially operated by two practitioners, Dr Sam Everington and Dr Julia Davis. They were committed to providing excellent primary care in an area with significant social and economic challenges.

17 years ago after discussion with the Bromley by Bow Centre regarding new ways of providing healthcare the Partnership was established. Today ‘The Bromley by Bow Health Partnership’ consists of 110 people – a great team of varied health professionals – GPs, nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, Health Care Assistants, pharmacists and administrative support - who provide healthcare service to over 26,000 patients, operating from 3 surgeries across Tower Hamlets.

Our mission, vision and values include striving towards improving the quality of life in our practice communities by continuously providing the highest standards of primary healthcare to all our patients. We value making every patient and member of staff feel welcome and approach everyone with a professional and friendly manner. But most importantly we believe in empowering our patients to help themselves and make positive decisions about their health.

We have developed a method of “social prescribing”. This recognises that when people come to us they may arrive with symptoms such as headache or low mood. In fact the cause of these things may be issues around debt, housing, immigration status or employment. So we “prescribe” a visit to the welfare advice worker, or to the employment team or to volunteering opportunities.

Over the years, the Partnership has been involved in many projects which involved working with different groups of people to provide better healthcare and self-management, equipping patients and staff with knowledge and the skills to improve one’s health.

Some of the projects and groups we have worked on include:

We are now thinking about the next phase in our development. The “WELL” programme will deepen the way we work with patients, will make care more personal, will support greater patient activity and community support and will organise our work around smaller groups of patients.

We also belong to two of the eight Health Networks in the Borough. These Networks exist to bring together local practices to collaborate to improve the health of their local populations.
Bromley by Bow and St Andrews belong to the Mile End East and Bromley by Bow Network, and XX Place belongs to East End Health Network.
